The Uttarakhand High Court, while hearing the PIL filed against the dumping of non-vegetarian food and excreta from floating huts and floating restaurants in the Ganga river of Tehri, has directed the petitioner to make the State Pollution Board and the restaurants spreading filth as parties in this case. . The next hearing of the case has been fixed on December 28 in the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma.
According to the case, Pauri Garhwal resident Naveen Singh Rana filed a PIL and told the court that the state government has given permission to run floating huts and floating restaurants in the Ganga river of Tehri to promote tourism. But, they misused this permission by preparing non-vegetarian food in restaurants and dumping its waste in the holy Ganga. Apart from this, excreta from floating huts were also allowed to enter the river.
It has also been said in the PIL that in the license given to them to promote tourism, they are playing with the sentiments of crores of Sanatanis.
Before taking bath in this holy river Ganga, Sanatani worship it and take off slippers and shoes and take bath, whereas the liquids coming from floating huts and restaurants are defiling it.
The petitioner also sent a letter to the District Magistrate, Central Government and Chief Secretary asking for a ban on this, but no action was taken.
