With the change of municipal government in the city, the process of changing the names of roads and intersections continues. In the board meeting of the municipality held on Friday, the proposal to change the names of many roads as well as several intersections was approved. Now Ram-Rahim Chowk of Jwalanagar will be known as Shri Ram Chowk. Whereas Johar Ali Road has been named Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
In the board meeting of the municipality, a proposal was made to change the names of roads and major intersections of Rampur, which was approved. The process of changing names is quite old. The road which is today known as Johar Ali Road was earlier named Rah-e-Raza. Azam Khan had named it Johar Ali Road during the SP government.
Now this road will be known as Mahatma Gandhi Marg. Similarly, the road from Shahbad Gate to Allahabad Bank was named Rah-e-Murtaza, which came to be known as Shaukat Ali Road during the SP government. Now the name of this road will be Janpath.
Apart from this, Ram-Rahim Chowk in Jwala Nagar was named during the Azam government, now it has been changed to Shri Ram Chowk. It has been named Shri Ram Chowk to commemorate the consecration of Ramlala. Similarly, the intersection of Mistanganj will be called Mahavir Chowk.
The proposal to name Chauraha Hathikhana to Bareilly Gate Road after late Nazim Ali Khan has been passed in the board meeting. Apart from this, the proposal to name the road after famous poet Tanveer Sahari was also passed in the board meeting. Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has expressed happiness over this. This road will be from Katra Jalaluddin Tiraha to Guiya Talab Tiraha. This road will now be known as Tanveer Sahari Rampuri Road.
The proposal for new names has been approved in the board meeting. Soon the names of these roads and intersections will be changed and written in the papers with new names.-Durgeshwar Tripathi, Executive Officer, Rampur
