
Famous poet Munawwar Rana died of a heart attack on Sunday (January 14). He was 71 years old. He breathed his last at PGI, Lucknow. He was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment. Munawwar Rana was admitted to the ICU of the hospital. Two days before PGI, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow. According to the information, Munawwar Rana was suffering from chronic kidney disease.
And he had to undergo dialysis three times a week. Recently he also had pneumonia. Munawwar Rana was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Mati Ratan Award. Munawwar Rana was a famous poet and writer, apart from Urdu, he wrote in Hindi and Awadhi languages. Munawwar published his ghazals in many different styles. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu literature in 2014 and the Mati Ratan Award by the Shaheed Shodh Sansthan in 2012. He returned the Academy Award after almost a year. He also vowed never to accept government awards due to growing intolerance.
