Uttarakhand High Court, in a PIL filed in the Assembly backdoor recruitment scam, has asked the Assembly as to what action has been taken on recovery of salaries from the then Chief Minister and the then Assembly Speaker and other accused? The next hearing of the case will be on June 20.

The last petition of Associated Leader Innovative Thapar was reviewed today in the division bench of Chief Justice Ritu Outer and Republic Alok Kumar Verma.

Petitioner’s lawyer Abhijay Negi said that backdoor recruitment has taken place in the Uttarakhand Assembly and there has been large-scale corruption and irregularities. The Assembly formed an inquiry committee on this subject and canceled the recruitments from 2016, but this scam continued since the formation of the state in 2000, which was also ignored by the government.

The government has till now maintained silence on this issue against all the Assembly Speakers and Chief Ministers involved in giving corrupt jobs to their close ones. It has been prayed in the petition that the powerful people who provide jobs through corruption should be investigated under the supervision of the sitting judge of the court and the government money should be recovered.

Taking this seriously, the court asked the government to file its reply within 8 weeks on 30 November 2022, while the Assembly filed its reply in the court. The petitioner prayed that the looted government money should be recovered from the officers, Assembly Speakers and Chief Ministers who indulged in corruption through backdoor recruitment.

According to Abhijay, the Assembly said in its counter affidavit that lower officials and the then Assembly Speaker and the then Chief Minister were also involved in giving illegal appointments. In his affidavit, he has also given evidence of present Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami giving such appointment ignoring the notesheets of the Personnel Department and Finance Department. Abhijay also said that questions have been raised in the Assembly on the year 2016 and the current Chief Minister.

Today the Division Bench has asked the Assembly what punitive action has been taken under the Government Order of 2003?
